Test the CPU in a friend's PC? What seems to be the issue to me is your RAM, or your CPU, though I think it is your RAM, test it in a friend's PC.

i've managed to get metest running so when it's finished i'll post back in here with the results

Memtest 86+ correct? The reason we didn't mention that yet is because the CPU might be having problems, in turn making the RAM look like it has problems. RMA your RAM.

correct, it's Memtest86+ so far it's passed all tests but it's still running im guessing it'll be running for ages as well, im kinda hoping it is the ram and not the processoer thats at fault as i don't thave the box for the processor anymore so i can't return it to the place i got it from.

It is best to RMA the RAM since you know it's the problem. I think your CPU's ok, if it is not after you receive your second kit you could upgrade to something better since you said you lost the box.

so im guessing it's looking like the cpu is faulty then?
